Email Improvements #1.. BCC Message

November 24, 2009

OK – so e-mail has many failings (such as being able to fake the source etc), but I’d like to add this to the feature requests; A BCC message tag.

Essentially it would enable a User to email a recipient, and put a secret message within the email to BCC recipients.

Example; Let’s say we email Joe Bloggs (a client) and BCC some workers, then within the message we could put a special tag (e.g [BCC Message]) that only John Doe (or any bcc recipients) would get.

Some of the benefits of this (over sending a duplicate email) is mailbox space, bandwidth, efficiency etc etc.

Design Pattern (@pattern tag?)

November 17, 2009

Last week, the tech team and I (at Clock Ltd) with the help of  iBuildings, were discussing Design Patterns and OO.

We discussed that in some of the frameworks/projects we had worked on the class or filename was the actual design pattern, for instance Factory.php which contains the class Factory, which seemingly helped readability and understanding of what the class is doing or what it is about.

However! a class may happen to be a singleton, but that’s not its main purpose in life, so I think naming it Singleton is perhaps a bad idea… which then lead me to think that the best way to get this method of readability/understanding across maybe to use the comments…

…perhaps phpdoc should contain a new @pattern tag? (or perhaps phpdoc has another tag that could be utilised for this purpose?)

I think this would be extremely useful for maintenance of code, and understanding of the original authors ideas of the code.

Balance

November 11, 2009

I think if we were to build ‘Deep Thought v2 – The Faster Version!’ the answer to the ‘Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything’ would be balance.

It is quite literally (in my opinion) the single most important thing to get right in life. Find ultimate balance and you will live a content and fulfilled life.

Born in October, my view might be biased (I’m a libran) – but if you only do a quick search on Google for “Importance of Balance” and read both the normal search results and the scholarly articles.. you will see that pretty much every subject matter you can think of is mentioned and how important striking equilibrium is.

Balance is elusive… yet I believe trying to achieve balance is the pursuit of happiness.

Music Daddy

November 10, 2009

My life has taken a fantastic turn, I am going to be a dad! I am so excited and inspired.. my life is never going to be the same, and I can’t wait.

Along with the emotions you’d expect from such a revelation, I have had another, one of creativity and nostalgia.

I have never been good at the physical part of creating such as drawing and the like, but my head is constantly on the go when it comes to creative thinking, and I do try to put into practice my creative ideas.. they don’t always work! but that’s a part of it. Anyway I digress..

Music has always been there in my life, it’s probably played a much bigger part than I can ever have imagined.. Just recently I have started to think about music that I feel drawn to, without knowing inherently why.

On the radio about a year ago, ‘The Cube Guys – Baba O’Riley’ started playing and it just made my whole being smile and feel alive.
I felt like I knew it – without actually knowing it previously…. and I have just started thinking today, perhaps my mum, when she was pregnant with me, was a big ‘Who’ fan? or perhaps when I was a wee little ‘en it played on the radio whilst I was in a high emotional state? Or am I thinking about this too much?

Often you see reports saying playing classical music to children can have an effect on the mathematical abilities in later life…

Is what we/I expose our expectant baby to- going to have much more of an impact than we can possibly even imagine? Either way.. I am going to play some cool stuff to them :)

This is my first blog by the way (even though I have been at a Web agency for almost 10 years!), so if it doesn’t read quite right then bare with me, I’m a newby!
